Enterprise Product Designer focused on complex workflows and operational software.
Hi, I'm John Mills.
Over the past 11+ years I've designed and built enterprise software across platform UX, workflow-heavy products, and large-scale design systems.
Lead UX Designer | 2024–2026

A strategic product transformation project focused on turning a neglected landing page into an operational command centre for a global enterprise platform.
Lead UX Designer | 2023–2025

A flagship systems-thinking project focused on redesigning one of CargoWise’s most critical workflow surfaces without losing the power expert operators depend on.
Lead UX Designer | 2024

A platform-wide migration initiative that turned a legacy importer replacement into a more efficient, understandable, and keyboard-friendly data import workflow adopted across CargoWise.
UX Designer / Developer | 2015–2021

A six-year journey across platform design and product delivery that built the technical literacy, implementation fluency, and knowledge-sharing habits needed to connect design strategy with operational reality.
I enjoy untangling messy systems, improving the way information is structured, and designing tools that help people work faster and make better decisions.
My background in development still heavily influences how I work today, especially when collaborating closely with engineers and designing systems that need to scale across large products.

Senior UX Designer
Leading platform-level UX initiatives across CargoWise with a focus on enterprise workflows, operational tooling, and scalable design systems. My work included large-scale projects such as the redesign of the CargoWise data table experience, CargoWise Next, AI-assisted workflows, keyboard shortcut systems, and operational bulk action tooling. A large part of the role involved balancing usability with the flexibility and efficiency required by expert users operating within highly complex logistics environments.
UX Designer
Worked as an embedded designer across multiple enterprise product teams including HRM, CRM, and Contracts & Allocations. I collaborated closely with product managers, developers, and operational users to modernise legacy desktop workflows for the web, improve usability across complex systems, and design workflow-heavy enterprise tooling. This role significantly deepened my experience in systems thinking, workflow optimisation, user research, and implementation-aware product design.
UX Designer / Developer
Worked across both UX design and front-end development during a period where WiseTech’s internal design capability was still rapidly evolving. I helped drive UX improvements across enterprise web and desktop applications while also implementing designs directly within the product. The role involved collaborating closely with developers and the small design team, mentoring interns, prioritising UX enhancement work, and helping establish more consistent design practices across the platform.
Developer
Worked across both web and desktop enterprise applications within WiseTech’s Glow platform, contributing to front-end feature development and workflow improvements. During this period I increasingly collaborated with WiseTech’s early UX function and gradually became more involved in interaction design and usability-focused work alongside implementation. The role helped shape the bridge between my technical background and eventual transition into product and UX design.
Associate Developer
Started my career at WiseTech Global working across enterprise web and desktop applications while building strong technical foundations in large-scale operational software systems. I worked with HTML-based web technologies alongside WPF/XAML desktop development and gained experience collaborating with developers, product managers, and the company’s early UX team. This period established my understanding of complex enterprise environments and the realities of building software at scale.
Part-Time Intern
Worked across event coordination, marketing, graphic design, and digital content support for the ACS Foundation’s ‘Big Day In’ student technology career events held at universities across Australia. My role involved coordinating volunteers, supporting event logistics, hosting live sessions for large student audiences, and assisting with marketing and website updates. The experience helped develop strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder coordination skills early in my career.

After spending the better part of a year researching and redesigning enterprise data tables, I was invited to speak about the work at the inaugural Into Design Systems conference in Sydney.
